The UP Warriorz (UPW) secured their maiden victory of the TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 by defeating defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets in Navi Mumbai. A brilliant, unbeaten 64 off 39 deliveries from Harleen Deol guided UPW’s chase of 162, handing MI their second loss from four games so far this season.
After UPW captain Meg Lanning won the toss and elected to field first, her bowlers kept the MI batters in check early on. Despite a sublime 65(43) from the returning Natalie Sciver-Brunt and a quickfire 32*(20) from Nicola Carey, Mumbai posted a competitive 161/5. In the chase, Harleen’s match-winning knock, which included 12 fours, and a strong finish from Chloe Tryon (27* off 11), helped UPW chase down the total with 11 deliveries to spare.
MI's new opening pair of Amanjot Kaur and G Kamalini struggled for rhythm against a disciplined UPW attack in the first five overs, reaching only 32/0 after the powerplay. Amanjot played well for her 38(33), but Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone struck off consecutive overs, and both MI openers were back in the hut.
Despite MI struggling at 74/3 inside the 13th over, with their in-form captain Harmanpreet Kaur also out for 16(11), Sciver-Brunt looked a class apart.

The English player dominated the next phase of the innings, reaching a fluent half-century and building a crucial partnership with Nicola Carey. The duo’s partnership of 85(43), including Carey’s unbeaten 32 off 20 balls, ensured MI put on 58 runs in the last five overs and posted a competitive 161/5 after 20 overs.
In the run chase, UPW got off to a steady start, putting on 42/0 after the powerplay, with captain Lanning leading the charge. Openers Lanning and Kiran Navgire were in a strong position to accelerate, but Sciver-Brunt showed her qualities with the ball in hand as well, dismissing both Lanning (25 off 26) and Navgire (10 off 12) in the same over.
However, Harleen did not allow MI to take control of proceedings, playing confidently from the very beginning of her innings. Harleen and Phoebe Litchfield played a range of quality shots, taking UPW to 83/2 after 10 overs, needing another 79 runs from the final 10 overs. Harleen produced a masterclass in batting, peppering the off-side with boundaries galore.

While Litchfield got out to leading WPL wicket-taker Amelia Kerr (47 wickets), ending a 76-run partnership, Harleen kept going strongly.
She got to her fifty off 31 deliveries, and the pairing of Tryon and Harleen put on a fiery stand of 44*(20) to guide UPW home with 1.5 overs to spare. Tryon’s closing act included four boundaries and a big six.
