Delhi Capitals secured their first victory of the TATA WPL 2026 season in a thrilling last-ball finish against UP Warriorz at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai during Match 7. The Capitals, chasing a target of 155, held their nerve to win by seven wickets, largely thanks to an all-round performance by Player of the Match Shafali Verma and a robust fifty from opener Lizelle Lee.
Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues won the toss and elected to field first, a decision vindicated by a disciplined bowling performance in the death overs that restricted UP Warriorz to 154/8 in their 20 overs. The chase, anchored by a formidable opening stand, went down to the wire but was ultimately sealed on the final delivery.
After having asked to bat first, UPW saw an early setback with Kiran Navgire's dismissal for a duck. UP Warriorz captain Meg Lanning crossed 1000 WPL runs during her innings and became only the third player in the league to achieve this feat after Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur. Lanning then formed a crucial 85-run partnership with Harleen Deol. Lanning scored a fluent 54 off 38 balls, while Deol added a confident 47 off 36 deliveries before being strategically retired out in a debatable decision aimed at maximizing the final overs.

The Warriorz's innings unravelled dramatically in the final five overs. A sharp bowling effort, particularly from an unexpected source in Shafali Verma who claimed two key wickets for just 16 runs in her four overs, triggered a collapse that saw UP lose six wickets for only 24 runs towards the end of their innings. Marizanne Kapp also contributed with two wickets.

Chasing 155, the Delhi Capitals' openers, Lizelle Lee and Shafali Verma, provided a flying start with a 94-run partnership. Lee, continuing her fine form, smashed 67 off 44 balls, while Verma's brisk 36(32) ensured the required run rate was well within control before both fell to the spin of Deepti Sharma and Asha Sobhana, respectively.

Despite the strong start, the Capitals made the chase tricky for themselves, needing six runs off the final over bowled by Sophie Ecclestone. The tension was palpable as Marizanne Kapp managed a boundary off the second ball, but two subsequent dot balls meant Delhi needed one run from the final delivery. Laura Wolvaardt, holding her nerve, sealed the victory with a perfectly timed cover drive for a boundary, handing Delhi their maiden win of the season.
