Defending champions Mumbai Indians sealed a commanding 50-run win over Delhi Capitals in Match 3 at the DY Patil Stadium. A dominant batting display from the two-time champions was followed by a clinical bowling effort, led by Amelia Kerr (3/24) and Nicola Carey (3/37).
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was named Player of the Match after spearheading MI’s batting with a blistering 74* off 32 balls, while Nat Sciver-Brunt’s composed 70 off 46 deliveries powered Mumbai Indians to an imposing 195/4.

Asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians suffered an early setback as Amelia Kerr was dismissed in the opening over. Chinelle Henry induced an edge, and wicketkeeper Lizelle Lee produced a stunning diving catch to her right to send the opener back.

All-time TATA WPL leading run-scorer Nat Sciver-Brunt then took charge after walking in at No.3 and found steady support from G Kamalini. The duo rebuilt calmly, guiding MI to 43/1 at the end of the powerplay. Just as Kamalini began to up the ante, youngster Nandini Sharma struck to claim her maiden TATA WPL wicket. Once again, Lee was sharp behind the stumps, completing another excellent diving catch, this time to her left.

MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur then joined Sciver-Brunt, and the experienced pair seized control of the innings. Sciver-Brunt rotated strike smartly and pierced the gaps with ease, while Harmanpreet countered the spinners with decisive footwork.

Sciver-Brunt brought up her first half-century of the season and the partnership flourished, adding 66 runs as MI crossed the 100-run mark in the 13th over. The stand was broken by Sree Charani, who dismissed Sciver-Brunt for a well-compiled 70 off 46 balls. Nicola Carey provided late impetus alongside Harmanpreet, keeping the scoreboard moving effectively as the MI skipper unleashed her trademark power-hitting. Harmanpreet registered her ninth TATA WPL fifty, while the pair added a valuable 52-run stand before Carey departed for a brisk 21(12). Harmanpreet finished in style, smashing four consecutive boundaries in the final over off Sree Charani to propel Mumbai Indians to an imposing 195/4.

Defending 195, Mumbai Indians’ bowlers delivered a disciplined performance to mirror the dominance of their batters. The pressure was applied early as Nat Sciver-Brunt struck in the opening exchanges, removing Lizelle Lee for 10. Nicola Carey was introduced in the fifth over and made an immediate impact, striking twice with two superb inswingers to dismiss Shafali Verma (8) and Laura Wolvaardt (9).

Delhi Capitals’ troubles deepened in the following over when skipper Jemimah Rodrigues departed cheaply, thanks to a sensational one-handed catch by 17-year-old G Kamalini behind the stumps, leaving DC reeling at 35/4 at the end of the powerplay.

Carey continued her impressive spell by accounting for Marizanne Kapp (10), reducing DC to 73/5 at the halfway mark.

Chinelle Henry then launched a spirited counterattack, showcasing her Caribbean power by swinging freely with her long levers. Despite losing partners at the other end, Henry kept DC’s hopes alive. She was dropped by Carey off Amelia Kerr in the 14th over and responded with a six off the very next delivery. She brought up her second TATA WPL fifty in style with a six however her innings ended at 56(33) as Amelia Kerr made the final blow to DC’s hopes. MI bowlers then wrapped up the DC innings for 145, sealing a convincing 50-run victory and their first win of the 2026 season.
