The Gujarat Giants (GG) secured a dramatic three-run victory over the Delhi Capitals (DC) in a pulsating Match 17 of the TATA Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026, held at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara. In a contest that ebbed and flowed until the very last delivery, Player of the Match Sophie Devine once again emerged as the hero, defending a tight target in the final over against her former team and securing a crucial win that propelled GG to second place on the points table.
After the Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bowl first, GG posted a competitive total of 174 for 9 in their 20 overs. Their innings was built around a composed half-century by skipper Beth Mooney, who scored 58 runs off 46 balls, including 7 fours. Mooney provided stability after the early dismissal of Devine (13) and built a solid 54-run partnership with the aggressive Anushka Sharma (39 off 25 balls), who struck eight boundaries.

However, the Giants' middle order experienced a collapse, losing a cluster of wickets between the 15th and 18th overs as Delhi's bowlers fought back. Left-arm spinner Sree Charani was the standout performer for Delhi, finishing with impressive figures of 4 wickets for 31 runs. A vital late cameo from Tanuja Kanwar (21 runs off 11 balls) in the final overs, which included three fours and a six, provided the crucial push to reach a defendable total.

Chasing 175 for victory, Delhi got off to a brisk start, with opener Shafali Verma (14) finding the boundary early before falling to Rajeshwari Gayakwad. A mid-innings slump saw Delhi slide to a precarious 100 for 6, with Rajeshwari Gayakwad chipping in with impressive figures of 3/20.

The match seemed all but over for Delhi until a sensational late fightback from Niki Prasad (47 runs off 24 balls) and Sneh Rana (29 runs off 15 balls). The duo unleashed a ferocious counter-attack, smashing a 70-run seventh-wicket partnership off just 31 balls to take the game to the wire. They smashed 23 runs in the 17th over against Sophie Devine that brought DC very close to the target and ignited the hopes.
With nine runs needed off the final over, captain Ashleigh Gardner made the brave decision to give the ball to Sophie Devine. Devine, drawing on her experience, held her nerve to dismiss both set batters and concede only five runs, sealing a thrilling three-run win for Gujarat and completing a season double over Delhi. Devine was named the Player of the Match for her match-winning four-wicket haul (4/37).
