Sophie Ecclestone was one of the top 10 expensive buys of the inaugural WPL auction as she was snapped up by UP Warriorz for INR 1.8 crore. Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz were all locked in a bidding war for the English spinner before the hammer came down in favour of the Warriorz. Ecclestone brings with herself a deadly combo of skill, accuracy, spin and bounce. She has been a vital cog for England in the last few years and a top ranked bowler in ICC ODI and T20I rankings. She is an economical wicket-taking bowler who can choke the opposition batters into submission. She brings a lot of experience to the table and was a part of the England side that made it to the final of the 2018 T20 World Cup and the 2022 ODI World Cup where she played a crucial role in both campaigns. She was the highest wicket-taker in the 2022 ODI World Cup in New Zealand with 21 wickets and gave away runs at just 3.83 per over. Ecclestone can also chip in with handy runs lower down the order. She was the joint-highest wicket-taker in the inaugural edition of the WPL with 16 wickets. At just 24, she's on top of the world and the UP Warriorz are lucky to have this gem in their arsenal.
