Another masterclass, this time in the run chase, from Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Harmanpreet Kaur gave the defending champions a second successive victory in the TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026. Chasing 193 for victory against Gujarat Giants (MI), Harmanpreet led from the front with an unbeaten 71(43) and bagged back-to-back Player of the Match awards.
Another high-scoring contest saw GG post 192 with a late surge from Georgia Wareham and Bharti Fulmali. But MI were up to the task, with Amanjot Kaur and Nicola Carey also contributing crucial knocks alongside their captain.
Being put in to bat first by MI, GG and Beth Mooney had the early stroke of luck with G. Kamalini dropping the Australian’s catch in Shabnim Ismail’s first over.
Mooney and the in-form Sophie Devine capitalised, hitting four boundaries off the next over of Hayley Matthews. Kamalini was quick to redeem herself, taking a fine catch off Ismail to send back the dangerous Devine for just 8(4). Mooney, however, made the most of her reprieve. Mooney and Kanika Ahuja hit 36 runs off the next three overs, with Kanika rocketing to 20(8), and GG ended the powerplay at 62/1.

Amelia Kerr once again struck in her opening over to end Mooney’s stay (33 off 26). Kanika continued along her merry way, joined by captain Ashleigh Gardner, and the two put on 34 runs in the next three overs. MI’s Nicola Carey, one of the finds of the season so far, first trapped Gardner in front (20 off 11), before taking a good catch in the deep to dismiss Kanika (35 off 18), and GG were suddenly 101/4 after 11 overs.
MI put the brakes on the scoring through the next five overs, before GG decided to retire Ayushi Soni out and bring in the big-hitting Fulmali to join Wareham at 136/5 with four overs to go.
The move paid rich dividends, with Fulmali (36* off 15) and Wareham (43* off 33) smashing 39 runs off the last two overs, including three sixes and four fours, to power GG to 192/5.
The new MI opening pair of Kamalini and Matthews got off to a positive start, before a smart stumping by Mooney forced Kamalini to walk back for 13(12). Matthews was in the mood with 22 off 11 deliveries before a fine catch by Devine at deep fine leg off Kashvee Gautam ended her innings.
At 48/2 after the powerplay, Amanjot led MI’s charge alongside captain Harmanpreet as 37 runs came off the next three overs. Harmanpreet accelerated soon after with a couple of lovely shots for six down the ground.
MI wrestled back the momentum, but still needed 84 runs off the last eight overs. Devine, as she often does, picked up a key wicket with Amanjot holing out to long-on after an impressive 40(26). While Harmanpreet came into her own just as she did in the win over Delhi Capitals (DC), Carey’s abilities as a finisher once again came to the fore. With 59 runs needed from five overs, Carey produced a 20-run over off Renuka.
Harmanpreet brought up her second consecutive fifty (off 33 balls) in the next over and her 10th in the WPL - the most 50+ scores for any player in the tournament’s history. Three more fours from the duo off Rajeshwari Gayakwad’s 18th over put MI in a commanding position with only 14 needed off 12.
The captain then sealed the deal with a boundary and four balls to spare, clinching her team’s highest-ever successful WPL run chase.
